The designation of WOAH reference laboratory for Foot and Mouth Disease(FMD) at 84th WOAH general session in May, 2016.
Key Responsibility
- Expert consultation at the disposal of the World Organization for Animal Health(WOAH)
- Provision of diagnostic testing facilities to Member Countries and expert consultation on FMD control
- Production and supply of diagnostic reagents for FMD
- Collaboration and cooperation with the experts in Member Countries for FMD research
- Development of procedures for diagnosis and control of FMD
- Provision of epizootiological data analysis on FMD outbreaks
- Publication and utilization of any information relevant to FMD
- Provision of scientific and technical training for the personnel from Member Countries
Research Area
- Surveillance and diagnosis on FMD in susceptible cloven-hoofed animals
- Characterization and molecular epidemiology of isolated FMDV
- Research on monitoring tools at an early stage FMD detection in order to prepare FMD outbreak in Korea or from other countries
- Development and improvement of serological assays for FMD
- Evaluation and analysis on FMD serological surveillance in Korea
