Restaurants Required to Identify Origins of Beef, Rice
Restaurants in Korea will be required to identify the origin of beef and rice beginning next month, while labeling of pork, chicken and kimchi will be enforced starting at the end of the year.
Government officials say labeling will be required of all restaurants including buffets, fast-food restaurants, and cafeterias in schools, hospitals, and rest stops.
All dishes made from beef, chicken, pork, rice, or cabbage must be labeled with their place of origin in clear view of customers. And those dishes containing ingredients from more than one place must identify all of the countries of origin.
Restaurant owners who mislead or deceive customers face steep fines, even possible time behind bars.
