The National Veterinary Research & Quarantine Service (NVRQS) held the training program on the Diagnosis of Avian Influenza for their Experts from ASEAN member countries from May 8 to May 11, 2007. This training course was prepared in according to the Korean Ministry of Agriculture & Forestry’s project regarding the cooperation for preventing Avian Influenza at the 6th AMAF+3, which was held in Singapore on November 17, 2006. The course was participated in 19 experts from 9 countries (Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam) in ASEAN member countries. The course was composed of presentation & discussion of each ASEAN country’s Avian Influenza(AI) control; lectures about Korea’s AI control system, explanation of facilities and equipment for diagnosis; practical exercise, etc. In addition, the Korean Ministry of Agriculture & Forestry provided the attending experts with our AI rapid test kits on a pilot basis. The AI rapid test kit was developed by NVRQS and ANIGEN, Inc. The kits have been exported to many countries and used widely in domestic field. The NVRQS will expect that the course should be helpful to AI control in ASEAN member countries and the Korean Ministry of Agriculture & Forestry considers regularizing this training Program on the Diagnosis of Avian Influenza.
