The first qPCR and DNA sequencing workshop was held in Foreign Animal Disease Division of NVRQS on 12, 13, 16 and 18 June 2008. The programmes were for the understanding the basic principles real-time quantatitive RT-PCR and DNA sequening of PCR products and practicing them by the participants.
The qPCR was focused on the detection and absolute quantification of viral RNA genomes in small quantity using Taqman probe and by drawing standard curve with the samples made from the in-vitro transcribed RNAs. The DNA sequencing was for quick genomic typing of highly contagious viral agents like HPAI or FMDV directly after PCR. More than ten people, Including the three trainees from Mongolia visiting Korea under the KOICA program, took part in the workshop and all the lectures, courses and discussions were spoken in English.
