Bird Flu Breaks out in North Jeolla
The positive diagnosis of avian influenza in South Jeolla province of Korea was rendered Thursday night and officials are eliminating poultry suspected to be contaminated by the virus.
After the announcement, the Ministry of Food, Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries quickly decided to kill and bury all birds in radius of 500-meters from the affected farm in Gimje, a total of some 308-thousand chickens and eggs from 7 farms.
The eggs which have already been distributed to markets will be collected and eradicated.
300 officials will be dispatched to the scene to speed up controls.
Officials called an investigation this week over the unexpected recent death of 2-thousand poultry.
This is the first avian influenza break out in the country this year since the last case was confirmed in March 2007.
