Import risk assessment division has been hosting a seminar series featuring prominent scientists from the various fields related to risk assessment. As a part of the series, we held a seminar on 'Introduction to quantitative risk analysis' on Tuesday, Oct. 23 from 16:00 to 18:00.
Risk assessment is now seen as a key measure to effectively manage the risk to a country in the international trade and provides the scientific basis for a country's decision on whether to import livestock and livestock products. The aim of this seminar is to provide participants with an overview of the quantitative risk analysis process and how this can be performed appropriately with scenario and modelling.
Prof. Sunil Park, DVM PhD of Kangwon University was invited as a speaker to provide the guidelines for QRA(quantitative risk analysis).
The senimar mainly focused on :
- Why the quantitative risk analysis is needed
- Guidelines for developing QRA
- Examples of constructing scenario tree and modelling
The participants of this seminar had an opportunity to learn about the techniques as well as outline for QRA. In addition, we had a long discussion on how we can improve our current risk assessment process and shared the view that quantitative risk analysis is necessary to meet the international needs and at the same time protect national agricultural industry.
